Alright, let’s talk about Bad Girl—the anime that had us all fooled with its title, right? I mean, when you hear “Bad Girl” and see a protagonist in a sailor uniform wielding a katana, you expect some delinquent action, maybe a few street fights, or at least a rebellious streak. But nope, this show took a hard left into wholesome chaos, and honestly? I’m here for it.
Produced by Bridge inc. and premiering in July 2025, Bad Girl follows Yuu Yuutani, a first-year high school student who’s… well, not actually a bad girl. She’s a total goody-two-shoes—follows rules, helps around the house, the whole nine yards. But here’s the twist: she starts acting like a delinquent to catch the eye of Atori Mizutori, the school’s disciplinary committee chairman and resident “Madonna.” Cue the misunderstandings, the over-the-top antics, and a whole lot of yuri subtext that fans can’t get enough of.
Let’s dive into the finale, Episode 12, because that’s where the magic (and the memes) happened. The episode kicks off with Yuu panicking over a rumor that Atori’s leaving the country—specifically, Chicago. Spoiler: It’s a misunderstanding. Atori’s just going on a three-day trip to Shizuoka, not moving to the Windy City. Classic Yuu move, right? She’s so obsessed with Atori that she jumps to the wildest conclusions. Fans were quick to call this out, with one commenter joking, “Yuu really thought that Attori would leave for Chigaco even though it was just a 3 days trip in Japan haha, this situation sure summarizes Yuu’s obsession for her.”
But the real star of the episode? The “King of Evil” competition. The girls gather to debate what’s the “baddest” thing in the world, and their answers are pure comedy gold. Sausages get nominated twice (because why not?), and Atori ends up being crowned the ultimate evil—something fans saw coming from a mile away. “Atori is the one and only true King of Evil,” one fan declared, and honestly, after her teasing and manipulation all season, it’s hard to argue.
Now, let’s talk about the yuri elephant in the room. Bad Girl is a CGDCT (Cute Girls Doing Cute Things) show, but it’s also unapologetically gay. The main ship? Yuu and Suzu, her childhood friend who’s been pining for her since day one. The finale gives us some sweet moments between them—like holding hands and a post-credit scene that had fans screaming. “I’m glad that the final scene was that sweet moment between Suzu and Yuu,” one commenter wrote, and another added, “The post credit is so sweet, it’s really encapsulated the cuteness and hilarity of this series.”
But not everyone was happy with the lack of progression. Suzu’s feelings are obvious, but Yuu’s still too busy fawning over Atori to notice. “Poor Suzu tho, Yuu is close yet so far,” a fan lamented. It’s a classic case of “will they, won’t they,” and while the finale didn’t give us a confession, it did leave the door open for more.
Of course, no anime is without its critics. Some fans found the Atori obsession over-the-top (“Occasionally the show nose dived whenever Yuu and Mizuka bonded over their worshipping of Atori. It was a little over the top and annoying,” one said), and others wanted more ecchi or a deeper plot. But for the most part, the reception was positive. “This was a genuine surprise. I honestly thought I was gonna drop this after 3 episodes or 4, but turns out the casts are all enjoyable,” a viewer admitted.
The biggest question on everyone’s mind? Will there be a Season 2? Fans are begging for it, with comments like “Need more!” and “gay/10 need season 2 ASAP.” Unfortunately, CGDCT shows rarely get second seasons, but there’s hope. The manga is being licensed by YenPress (first volume out in March 2026), so maybe if sales are good, we’ll see more of Yuu, Suzu, and the gang.
Overall, Bad Girl is a fun, lighthearted ride that’s perfect for anyone who loves cute girls, comedy, and a little bit of yuri. It’s not the most complex show out there, but it’s got heart—and that’s what counts. As one fan put it, “This has ended. when Watanare ends too, what am I gonna do?” We feel you, buddy. We feel you.
So, if you’re in the mood for something that’ll make you laugh, ship some characters, and maybe even shed a tear (happy or sad), give Bad Girl a watch. Just don’t expect Yuu to stop obsessing over Atori anytime soon. And hey, if you’re lucky, maybe we’ll get that Season 2 announcement we all crave. Fingers crossed! 🤞
